Tears of Steel (2012) – Teach the robots what is love!

Tears of Steel (2012) – In a dystopian Netherlands, a group of warriors and scientists who gather at the “Oude Kerk” in a future Amsterdam to stage a crucial event from the past in a desperate attempt to rescue the world from destructive robots. They try to take out the robot menace in a very unique way—they give a captured robot memories, and to do this they build a machine that creates a field of illusions for a man and a robot to meet and teach the robots what love is. All visual effects, computer generated content and compositing work was done within the Blender software package. As with the previous Blender Open Movie Projects, the Blender developers and community worked together to provide a movie studio style production work flow for the team. The results are a complete open source pipeline for visual effects work in Blender including but not limited to camera tracking, rotoscoping, compositing and color grading.

It is an awesome film that tells a heart-warming story along with delivering amazing Visual Effects and some really awesome special features. It seems to be Hubert’s style to never quite tell us the whole story, but still have enough that you can follow and understand.

Directed by Ian Hubert.
Starring: Derek de Lint, Sergio Hasselbaink, Rogier Schippers
