Lovely octopuss couple escape the clutches of a Greek restaurant cook. Two octopi entwine in an embrace when a hand reaches from above, plucks them out of the water, disentangles them, tosses the male back in what now we see is a small aquarium, puts the female in a cold storage box, and heads for a delivery truck. He recovers from the initial shock and gives pursuit, grabbing the back of the truck as it leaves, then working himself to the front. As the driver tries to thwart his efforts to save his woman, the truck careens through the small coastal town. Their battle to stay together is not over even out of the kitchen.
This excellent animated short movie received a nomination for the 2009. Oscars among 13 international awards. Oktapodi is a 2007 French computer-animated short film that originated as a Graduate Student Project from Gobelins L’Ecole de L’Image.
Something I notice about the comments is that people do not seam to know that Gobelins is an Art School, so for a student film to be nominated for an Oscar, and for winning the Sigraph 08 audience and best of show award, is a great achievement. And I would have loved to have seen for them to have won the award, just to see what it would bring to them in the animated future.
Directed by Julien Bocabeille, François-Xavier Chanioux, Olivier Delabarre, Thierry Marchand, Quentin Marmier, Emud Mokhberi.
