The Formorian (2007)
(imdb) - I saw this last month at the 2007 Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films. This is the story as narrated by actor Gerry O'Brien of ancient Ireland when a warrior (Charlie Kranz) comes across a mythical humanoid demonic creature in the woods called a Formorian (Norma Sheahan). The Formorian race was dedicated to wiping out all humans but this creature is wounded and the warrior offers it aid. Aidenn McCarthy writes and directs her second short following last year's The Window. Stephen Murphy is the cinematographer, Special Effects by Dave Roddham and makeup by Tommy McInerney. This is too complex and broad of a subject for a mere 6 minute short. This would have worked better with some character and storyline development for a 15-20 minute short.

....i consider myself very open minded in terms of movies, but this one is definitely lacking ..mm.. everything. Not hard to get the subject only a very obvious one. Fortunately, there were only 6 mins. of it.

Reading the reviews, I can see why the comments are so brutal, yet it's not the fault of the short movie, but of modern education. Question: is music better with an accompanying video, or worse? I think most music videos are rubbish, while the song itself can be inspirational. This short is a prime example. People too often listen with their eyes nowadays, and this is the case here. In reality, this is a poem, an awesome, poem. The accompanying video, is an interpretation of the narration, devoid of excess as an attempt not to get into the way. In short, anyone that cannot understand or appreciate what the storytellers are trying to do here, are better off watching porn - something that appeals to their education level. So sorry, sux to be you.

i too believe this to be a good short, it has passion and imagination witch alot of poeple lack in todays world of electronic commerce but i still listen to stories told of old times and more importantly i still use my imagination,
the story is one meant for those that can understand it and by the reviews not many can, if you can find the truth and the meaning of the words, you will understand the film.
i for one like this film very much and wish there were more like it.
