With the Marines at Tarawaa 1944 short propaganda film directed by Louis Hayward. It uses authentic footage taken at the Battle of Tarawa to tell the story of the American servicemen from the time he gets the news that they are to participate in the invasion to the final taking of the island and raising of the Stars and Stripes. The film is in full color and uses no actors, making it a valuable historical document, although the narration seems to underplay the losses the Americans incurred in the battle. The film won the 1945 Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Subject. Wikipedia
Great film footage.Lest we forget those who were willing to sacifice all for freedom --- who fought and died on the plains, deserts, and beaches of World War II so that you and I,in our own time, might reap its precious gifts.
And we who live today must never forget the debt that we owe to them.We must hold high the torch that has been passed on to succeeding generations. If we are to keep faith with those who died here,we too must be willing to to do everything within our power to uphold the truth and keep the lamps of freedom and justice burning for as long as they are lit,no soul will have died in vain.
